Covid 19 Advisory and Travel Restrictions for Tanzania

July 30th, 2021

Community transmission of COVID-19 continues across Tanzania and the risk of contracting it is elevated. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend wearing a face mask, washing your hands frequently, observing social distancing, and avoiding crowds, to reduce exposure.

Travelers to Tanzania are required to complete an online Health Surveillance Form available at https://afyamsafiri.moh.go.tz/ within 24 hours prior to arrival. Travelers will then receive a Unique Health Code (UHC), which they will present to health officials upon arrival.

All travelers are also required to present a negative COVID-19 test certificate upon arrival. The test must be a Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test, with the sample collected within 72 hours before arrival in Tanzania. Travelers in transit more than 72 hours will be required to be tested by rapid test upon arrival in Tanzania at a cost to the traveler of US$25 per traveler. All travelers will also be subject to enhanced screening for COVID-19 upon arrival, including through a rapid test at a cost of US$25 per traveler and temperature scanning.

Fourteen-day mandatory quarantining is required for passengers from select countries.

For your return flight, PCR and/or antigen tests are available through Government of Tanzania laboratories. Tests can be booked through the Tanzanian Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly, and Children (MoHCDEC) website at https://pimacovid.moh.go.tz/#/booking and cost between US$100 and US$200.
